Bring me closer
A choreographic encounter between intimacy and distance within a live DJ club experience
Bring Me Closer is a dance performance combined with a live DJ concert experience that explores how intimacy is learned, desired, and resisted between two male bodies. The project has been selected to be pitched at Skuespilhuset during the international days of CPH STAGE in May 2026.
The work is created by choreographers and dancers Mikkel Alexander Tøttrup (DK) and Vasileios Maltampes (GR). Music and the live DJ performance are composed by Sebastian Morell, while set and lighting design are developed by Sol Patrick Ravn. Dramaturgy is by Rikke Frigast Jakobsen, and costume design by Åsa Gjerstad.
PERFORMANCE OVERVIEW
Bring Me Closer unfolds within the symbolic landscape of the nightclub, moving through live musical tableaux and choreographic explorations. At its center is a duet between two men navigating attraction, resistance, and vulnerability. By challenging norms of masculinity, touch, and emotional openness, the work invites audiences into a poetic and political reflection on love, identity, and how we share space.
The project is an internationally touring dance production based in Denmark, with production and premiere planned for spring 2027. The performance is aimed at audiences aged 13 and above. Through CPH STAGE, we are seeking an international partners and a co-producer.
KEY THEMES
Queer relationships: friendship, infatuation, desire. Closeness, openness, curiosity, and learning together through mistakes. Surrender without the necessity of a romantic ending. Trusting one another and leaning into the safety of another body.
The nightclub as a space: The club functions both as a sanctuary and a stage — a place where identity can dissolve and be reinvented, but also a space shaped by unspoken rules and power structures.
Movement without words becomes a tool to explore and challenge norms around masculinity, physicality, and intimacy. The body acts both as archive and resistance — a site where experiences are stored and transformed. The work revolves around the tension between wanting to move closer and protecting oneself. How is trust built between two bodies in a space where gazes, expectations, and social codes are constantly present?
ARTISTIC MOTIVATION
The project grows out of a personal and artistic inquiry into how intimacy between men is shaped in a time marked by both greater visibility and ongoing limitations. As male dancers and choreographers, we have experienced how physical closeness is often either sexualized or avoided, and how vulnerability can be perceived as a break from expected masculine norms.
The working process is research-based and rooted in improvisation, somatic practice, and dialogue. We draw on experiences from club culture, queer communities, and personal relationships. Music plays a central role as both driving force and structure: the live DJ-based composition creates a shared, pulsating space between performers and audience.
